Guss has tekn a bad turn :(
So our 14 year old King Charles Spaniel seems to have taken quite a bad turn
His back legs have been quite weak and unstable for a little while now, But over the weekend he seems to be yelping and crying for what appears to be no reason, Like you'll stand near him and he'll yelp, sometimes if he gets up fairly quickly he'll yelp and cry, then if he has to move suddenly same results.
we suspected he had Artheritus, but we were never sure, It does really seem to be though, His legs are obviously in a fair bit of pain.
and to top it off he's caught Kita's Kennel Cough .
Kita is trying to look after him, Bless her!
Mum is taking him to the vet tomorrow, Not sure how much they'll be able to do though as he is very old and over 2 years above average life expectancy for the breed

awww poor guss I know of someone who's 17 year old greyhound survived kennel cough though so dont worry too much about that (it took 2 lots of antibiotics but he was fine after that.
As for the arthritis there are things that can be done, pain meds and stuff, if he still has a good quality of life other than his legs then there are things which can be done

Poor lad, he sounds like the kind of boy who could really do without kennel cough!! Hope he gets on OK at the vets, metacam is popular for arthritis I think.

Re: Guss has tekn a bad turn :(
mum took Guss to the vets today, turns out he doesn't have KC or artheritus! , he has bad muscle deteriation in his back legs, the vet wasn't sure why he is in pain and doesn't think its related to his legs which is suprising.
His cough is related to his heart, he has a level 3 heart murmur, which is actually quite good for the breed.
Today it sounded like he was almost screaming in pain, i heard him from upstairs while in the shower! it was gut wrenching .
almost his full body was shaking today / like vibrating almost poor boy.
we know frm a while bk he has some sort of testicular tumor, but cldnt really be operated on due to his heart murmur and age.
he is going up to the animal hospital on wednesday for a scan and probably some blood work. i hope he'll be ok! My mum is in bits with worrey atm!

Re: Guss has tekn a bad turn :(
He has a very inflamed heart .
They're not sure if thats whats causing him so much pain though.
He's got lots of meds bless him, The Vet said he could survive up to 2 years with the condition, But who knows.
The vet said his quality of life should be good once the meds begin to work.
I mean he got really excited when he thought he was going out for a walk this morning.
He has to go on very short walks now which is a shame as he loves the walks!

Re: Guss has tekn a bad turn :(
He is bless him.
I don't know whether we can do short walks often as basically we need to not puff him out / get his heart rate to high for to long, also It'll take him a fair while to recover from a walk.
Thing is he loves the park, sniffing round there and exploring etc, But I don't think we can be out for that long, the vet literally said just take hime out long enough to do his business and thats it, so I'm thinking no more than 10 mins per walk

not sure tbh, basically we've been told exercise is bad for him now, I may just litterally carry him over to the park, let him have a sniff around there for 10 mins and then carry him bk ^_^
