Quote within a quote

When you quote a post if the person you quote has quoted someone else you get all of the previous quotes up etc. On other forums you can't quote a quoted bit just the text in relation to the quoted bit which seems tidier?

Have we got quote within a quote for a reason or is it just like that? I get confused is all
